Feeling on edge or a little nervous. It is time to take control and follow these steps to help you stress less.
One of the key steps to stressing less is exercise. Movement releases feel-good hormones like endorphins, which counteract the stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol. It is recommended to do a light jog, a walk or do some tai chi – avoid vigorous workouts, as it can stimulate your adrenaline system and make you feel more stressed.
Limit your caffeine. The last thing you want to do is live on coffee as it can cause your energy and mood and spike and dip. Coffee makes us more on edge; if your stressed, it is only going you make you feel worse. You don’t need to give up coffee completely, but consider trading your afternoon coffee for tea, or even better, try herbal teas.
Decrease stress by increasing your carb intake. Carbohydrates increases serotonin, which makes us feel relaxed and happy. But be careful not to overdo it. As foods containing carbohydrates such as hot chips and pastries can cause weight problems. Go for healthier options such as pastas or baked potato.
Don’t let technology rule you. Allow certain times of the day to check social media and emails. Turn off your mobile and spend some time to yourself to feel more in control, confident and relaxed.
Boost immune system. The stress hormone cortisol can really harm your immune system. To avoid falling ill, boost your immune system with vitamin C, zinc and Echinacea. Also try natural stress relievers such as liquorice root and B group vitamins.
Breathe. Concentrating on your breathing has proven to have plenty of health benefits. Take a moment to pause, why not try meditating?
