If you want to use a fake tanner and make it look natural it is important to match the right self tanner to suit your complexion. Use tinted self tanners to help cover spots you may have missed and if you are new always begin with a lighter tanner rather than a dark tanner. And always remember you still need to use sunscreen because fake tan does not offer any sun protection.
Here is a guide to choosing the right fake tan formulation that will suit your skin tone
Fair
If you have fair skin use a creamy self tanner. This will help hydrate dry skin and the emollients will dilute the DHA (the tanning agent). This will result in a lighter shade which looks a lot more natural.

Medium
Medium toned skin can generally choose between several formulations depending how deep of a tan you want to achieve. Use a cream fake tanner or spray for a light tan and for a deep tan use a tanning gel.

Olive
Gel formulas tend to be drier than creams, in this case the DHA (tanning agent) is more concentrated. This will result in a warmer, deeper tan which helps offset the green undertones in olive skin.
