How to Extract Blackheads

If you find you need to extract blackheads and don’t want to go to a beautician, you can do it yourself. But only if you are careful, because one false move you can damage your skin or end up with an infected cyst.

Best Way to Extract Blackheads

If you do need to extract blackheads, it is best to do it straight after a hot shower, as your pores are dilated. Using an acne/blackhead extractor (see below), apply a gentle, even pressure around your pore.

Then clean off the residue and bacteria using a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol. If you use retinol daily you will find this method works a lot easier, as retinol products draw blackheads to the surface of the skin.

To avoid infection always remember to sterilize your extractor every time you use it. Do this by placing it in boiling water for 10 minutes and then apply rubbing alcohol onto it.
